In India, there are many private/ gated communities (also known as colonies) which people choose to live in, despite higher costs, because of the extra element of safety offered by this environment. For property managers and community boards, keeping residents safe is therefore often even more of a priority than it is for typical municipalities. Preventing vehicles from speeding is a fundamental part of keeping community roads safe for residents and families in gated neighborhoods.
Neighborhood roads, however, can be a dangerous place. An ITE report highlighted the importance of slowing speeders on such neighborhood roads that are used by children, as speed is a key risk factor in child pedestrian injury and children are unlikely to be able to make wise decisions about road use.
