Reducing Speeds in Industrial Environments:
Nestle Manufacture Plant, India
Nestle’s plant in India reduced speeding by 75% using speed radar signs, improving safety, reducing collisions, and fostering a culture of responsible driving in an industrial environment.
The Client:
Nestlé is a global leader in the food and beverage industry, known for its commitment to quality, nutrition, and sustainability. With operations in over 180 countries, it prioritizes safety and efficiency in its facilities.
The Challenge:
The Nestlé manufacturing plant in India faced a road safety issue within its facilities. Vehicles in transit, both internal and external suppliers, were exceeding the established speed limits, posing a high risk to employees, operators, and plant infrastructure. Controlling speed was crucial to preventing accidents and ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
The Solution:
In December 2023 and March 2024, Nestlé purchased and installed three (1+2) speed radar signs at strategic points within its facilities. These devices, although not cloud-connected, provided immediate visual feedback to drivers, displaying their real-time speed and effectively encouraging speed reduction.
Since the radar installation, the plant has observed a 75% reduction in the number of speeding vehicles. This has generated multiple benefits, including:
- Increased safety for employees and pedestrians within the plant.
- Reduced risk of collisions and infrastructure damage.
- Compliance with internal road safety regulations.
- Improved awareness and a culture of safe driving among drivers.
The Benefits:
The Nestlé case highlights the importance of effective speed control solutions in industrial environments. Although the radars were not cloud-connected, their simple presence and real-time feedback were enough to modify driver behavior. Additionally, this case underscores the relevance of setting appropriate speed limits and ensuring compliance to prevent incidents that could affect productivity and workplace safety.
The investment in speed radars has not only enabled Nestlé to enhance safety within its plant but has also served as a best-practice model for other industrial facilities looking to minimize risks and optimize operations. Controlling speed in these environments is key to protecting personnel and infrastructure, demonstrating that road safety is a priority in any industry.
