The Client
Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) is a leading automotive manufacturer based in Bangalore, India. As one of Toyota’s key production facilities in the country, TKM plays a vital role in supplying vehicles for the Indian and select overseas markets. Their factory operates at a high pace with continuous vehicle and equipment movement on the shop floor.
The Challenge
Toyota’s shop floors had high traffic movement with forklifts and tow-vehicles operating in tight spaces and multiple intersections. Drivers were often unaware of their speed, leading to accidents and near-misses. Previous attempts using manual traffic control and CCTV were ineffective and labor-intensive. Toyota needed a proactive, visible solution that aligned with its “Safety First” culture.
The Solution
The company began with a pilot installation of 4 EV12FM speed signs on roads leading to the parking area to test real-time driver alerts. The system displayed vehicle speed and visual messages, supported by sirens/beacons to increase visibility. After immediate success, Toyota scaled up to over 60 signs across their shop floor. The solution was later recommended and extended to their Engines Division, which adopted the EV15SL with awareness camera units.
